About Us

In 1997, Larry and Amanda decided to pull up anchor and set sail for a little village on the outskirts of Truro called Threemilestone. It’s here they decided to drop anchor and board The Golden Fry Fish Bar.

With a good reputation in the village already, the Kellaway’s set their sites to the horizon, and on bringing The Golden Fry to the attention of all of Cornwall. Focusing on sustainable, fresh and delicious food, The Golden Fry will not disappoint.

Proud holders of a five star hygiene rating, and the prestigious NFFF quality award, the shop has gone from strength to strength, with many crew members helping along the way. The current second mates, Tim, Lauren and Jess, continue to up-hold the top standards set by the captains, and strive for quality in all aspects, such as food, service and value.

Docked in the central hub of Threemilestone, The Golden Fry has become an essential part of the diverse businesses in and around Threemilestone. With the crew tackling all tasks with enthusiasm and care, from swabbing the decks to manning the friers, they strive to bring you a delicious meal time after time.

So, next time you’re sailing in these waters, drift by The Golden Fry, to experience fish and chips the traditional way.

The Captains of the Ship

Larry & Amanda

Larry and Amanda Kellaway are the captains (owners) of the prized vessel. They have sailed The Golden Fry along the correct course for the past 19 years.

Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength. Larry and Amanda support the staff and are heavily involved in all aspects of the business, and keep the crew in ship shape.

Their loyal Crew!

Tim Kellow

Golden Fry Manager

Tim Kellow is the manager of The Golden Fry and has been with us since 2001. He also moonlights as Queen’s famous front-man, Freddy Mercury, in the ‘Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boys’. Running the shop alongside his great team, their primary focus remains on delivering quality fish and chips. Tim does all sorts of roles, from cutting fish to preparing the potatoes. He, along with Lauren and Jess, keep the shop ship-shape.

Lauren Kellaway

Assistant Manager

Lauren has been involved with the shop since her parents bought it, when she was three. She is usually in, running the shop Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening. As assistant manager, she helps keep the ball rolling, along with Tim and Jess, doing important ordering, fish cutting and other roles, too. She recently qualified as an NFFF academy graduate.

Karen has been at The Golden Fry pretty much since Larry and Amanda purchased the shop. As an essential lunchtime member of the team, you’ll be likely to see her on a morning shift behind the frier.

Martin has been with us since day one. He is the captain of our spud shed, freshly cutting our potatoes from Monday to Friday.

Jess is a vital cog in The Golden Fry team. As well as being a great all-rounder, Jess regularly runs the shop. Always bright and bubbly, she adds a lot of character.

James is new to the spud shed. He is at the helm on a Saturday morning, and can also be seen frying chips some weekday evenings.

Molly has been with us for two years, whilst studying her A-Levels. Molly is a central part of the team, and both serves and fries.

Liv is the other half of our new serving team. As well as working at The Golden Fry, she also has a keen interest in horses.

Tee is one of our new serving team. Due to her involvement in R.A.O.S.T., she always brings a confident smile to the shop.

Lauren S

Lauren is our little holiday helper. She helps strengthen our team in the busy parts of the year, when she’s not studying for her degree in Liverpool.
